How do property taxes work in California?

By Stone Real Estate Group · September 23, 2026

California property taxes start around one percent of assessed value, plus local bonds — most San Diego County bills land near one-point-two percent. Your assessed value is generally your purchase price, and thanks to Proposition 13, it can rise at most two percent a year. You pay in two installments, December and April. Stone Real Estate Group walks every buyer through taxes before they offer. Call 858-481-7653.
